Discount Coffee Makers for Your Office Breakroom

Tuesday, June 21st, 2011

A statistical survey conducted in April 2004 by The Business Insider revealed that America has one of the longest workdays in the world, with many Americans working unpaid overtime. How do they do it? Coffee helps!  Many employees across the country rely on a daily caffeine boost to get going, and often times to keep going after lunch; the spirit is willing, even if the flesh is weak.

A discount coffeemaker in your office break room can mean the difference between falling short of your goals and meeting them.  And the better quality coffee maker you have, the more productivity you’ll see around the office, even during those sleepy after-lunch hours. The larger coffeemakers can make as many as 12 cups in under 15 minutes – and that’s more than enough to get an entire office worth of people from blah to blast off.

A quality discount coffeemaker is one of the best investments that any businessperson can make.  You can buy them with your other discount office supplies.

To quote the Broadway musical How To Succeed In Business Without Even Trying…

If I can’t take my coffee break;

Somehow the soul no longer tries;

Somewhere I don’t metabolize;

Something inside of me dies!

…and many of us sympathize.

Push-pins: From Rags to Riches

Monday, June 20th, 2011

We all use push-pins to stick papers up on bulletin boards or cubicle walls. They’re good for presentations – tack up drawings, posters, whatever you want your audience to be able to see and run their fingers over. Such a tiny, simple thing can be so useful, it’s wise to always get a box or two when you order your discount office supplies.

There’s a real rags-to-riches story associated with push-pins. The inventor, Edwin Moore, started the Moore Push-Pin Company with $112.60 in 1900. He spent his nights by himself in his rented room making push-pins to sell on the streets in the morning. He didn’t start advertising until 1903, but by that time he already had some notable accounts, including the Kodak Eastman Company.

Moore went on to invent and patent map pins (which have spherical heads instead of flat-topped handles) and picture hangers. The Moore Push-Pin Company is still in business, making the same indispensable little things, in Wyndmoor, PA.

Check your middle drawer and be sure: do you have enough push pins? They’re one of those valuable yet inexpensive little office supplies that have a way of getting lost. Order plenty of push-pins with your next batch of discount office supplies.

Here’s a sticking point with ball-point pens

Tuesday, February 22nd, 2011

When you sit down to order discount office supplies, you might be dumbfounded by the array of pens that are available. If you like an elegant, flowing line, you might want a gel or rollerball pen, but for everyday utilitarian use, the humble ballpoint pen is essential.

Do you need retractable or stick? Who cares, right? Well, it might matter to you if you stop to think about it.

If the pen is going to be sitting on your desk all day, a stick may be ideal for you – you’re not going to want to be clicking away every time you need to make a mark. You can stick the cap on top and leave it like that, and not even worry about the ink drying out. You can even wrap it with a little piece of tape with your name on it so it doesn’t walk away.

If you’re going to be carrying it around, however, a retractable pen is probably better for you. You can click it open and shut without worrying about where the cap is or taking the couple of seconds it takes to put the cap back on before slipping it into your shirt pocket or dropping it into your briefcase. A retractable pen may make the difference between keeping everything neat and clean or having little ink marks all over your stuff.

Decide what kind of pens you need before you order your office supplies, and your time online will be significantly reduced.

Brighten up someone’s day with art supplies!

Wednesday, February 16th, 2011

Whether it’s a mid-year stock-up of your child’s school supplies, a cool surprise for your kids when they come home from school or a stress-reliever for your office break room, you’ll find that art supplies go a long way toward putting smiles on people’s faces. Maybe you never thought of art supplies as office supplies, but happy people are willing workers who tend to be more productive.

  • Crayons. Everybody loves to doodle or draw with crayons. You’re never too old to create something bright and fun. Any child will be happy to receive a box of fresh new crayons — and they love the package that comes with a crayon sharpener! At the office, keep the break room supplied with box or two so that workers can unwind by doodling for a few minutes while they sit with their coffee.
  • Drawing paper. If you’re buying crayons, keep drawing paper on hand so that people don’t use printer/copier paper and other office supplies you need for other purposes.
  • Scented markers. These are easy to keep on hand with your other office supplies, and they give your workers a happy little boost back to childhood for just a moment. Nobody but th ande presenter needs to know that the sales figures he’s writing on the easel smell like licorice!
  • Dry-erase board and markers. You might reasonably expect to have these installed in your meeting rooms, but consider putting them in the break room as well – everybody loves to doodle on white boards. And white boards can also be used for real messaging. Just remember that you need dry-erase markers – not any other type — for use with a white board.
